Portland

2014. Variable size.

I use cement as everything that makes up the universe, it is the same material used in construction and architecture. The architecture process of the creation of the universe is not limited. Each part of it represents all of it and it has a function. I make a compact and fragile space. It is vulnerable to shocks, is harmless and exposed. The universe is composed by infinite particles and each one plays a role, as fragments of objects I use in the piece do, and these parts are for me chunks of memory.

Everything is part of the same mechanism. The cement used is known as Portland. It was invented in 1824 in England by the constructor Joseph Aspdin. The name comes from the similarity in appearance with rocks found on the Isle of Portland, Dorset County. That place is 9,000 miles from my geographical location, remote for me in terms of distance.
